The scout of the future: person plus algorithm
It is unlikely that an algorithm will replace the scout, but it will change the job. AI makes it possible to review many more matches and players, and to spot profiles in leagues or regions that almost nobody used to look at.
That can open opportunities: a player from a small place, with a good video and clear data, has a better chance of being seen than ten years ago.
But there are risks too. Algorithms can repeat biases if they are trained on incomplete data. And when minors are involved, data handling demands great care: family authorisation, transparency about what is stored and the possibility to delete the profile.
The scout of the future will combine data, personal judgement and ethics: using technology to find more talent, and treating every player, and their family, with respect.
