AI and youth football: which minors' data can be used and which cannot
When a club or a family uses an AI tool (to analyse videos, measure load or look for a team), they almost always hand over data about minors: name, date of birth, images, performance, sometimes health data.
Some basic questions before doing so: who is responsible for the data? What exactly is it used for? Is it shared with third parties? How long is it kept? Can it be deleted at the family's request? A serious tool answers all this clearly.
In many countries, the law requires the authorisation of a parent or guardian to process minors' data, and recommends keeping only what is necessary. Avoid uploading images with other children's faces without their families' permission, and be wary of tools that ask for more data than they seem to need.
While technology moves on, the rule stays the same: the young player's interest comes first. This article is informational and is not legal advice.
